About Me

Hi. I‘m Moya Smith. I am a Registered Social Worker in Newfoundland and Labrador and Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Colorado. My passion is working with people who have experienced trauma – and their families. I have specialized training in working with trauma in both children and adults
Clients working with me really want to get to the roots of issues, understand what is going on and see regulation and connection within themselves and their families. It can be hard work but boy, is it worth it! I know from training, clinical experience and most of all from my personal parenting journey, that hope and healing are available.

I specialize in working with trauma and attachment through connected parenting.   I have worked for an intensive in-home program for families with children from trauma, as well as in my own private practice. I am a TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention) practitioner and mine is a Theraplay®-informed practice. I am trained and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I am also trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) and use sandtray in my practice. My work is family centered and connections based. I have been a frequent speaker at Heritage Camps for Adoptive Families and also offer pre and post-adoptive training at a USA based international adoption agency. I have conducted a one-week training for social welfare leaders in China and several two-day trainings to orphanage workers in Henan, China. My husband and I are parents to four children including our two daughters who were adopted internationally. I was Executive Director and co-founder of First Hugs, a non-profit organization that offered care and love to children in an orphanage in China through training caregivers in nurture and connection.
